Cardiology Fellowship

Call Schedules

Primary call is covered by the first and second year fellows. Midlevel providers screen phone calls from the answering service on weeknights. Third year fellows provide back-up for the first year fellows as described below.

There is no required in house call during the entire fellowship.

Week Day Call

  • Covers from 5pm to 8am

Weekend Call

  • Long fellow rounds on patients starting early Sat. am to 9pm
  • Short fellow covers Saturday night fellow 9pm to 7am Sunday
  • Long fellow covers 7am Sunday to 8pm Monday.  Long fellow is excused from service Monday at 9am after sign out

Call During First Year

  • 60% of Mon to Thursdays (31/yr)
  • 25% of Fridays (3/yr)
  • 75% of Long Weekend (10/yr)
  • 75% of Short Weekend (10/yr)

Call During Second Year

  • 40% of Mon to Thursdays (32/yr)
  • 75% of Fridays (10/yr)
  • 25% of Long Weekend (3/yr)
  • 25% of Short Weekend (3/yr)

Call During Third year

  • Every Fourth Week (13/yr)
  • Back-up Junior Fellows
  • Substitute for Junior Fellows’ Emergency
  • Perform bed side procedure that junior fellows lack skills ( TEE, Temporary Pacer or Swan)

DUTY HOURS

  • Full Compliance with ACGME standards
  • One day off out of 7
  • No more than 80 hours per week
  • No more than 30 hours consecutively
